Every journalist has stories that are seared in memory, events that stand out even in the moment as critical points in history. Never have I experienced so many within a single year.
Beginning with the Tehran jet crash in January, The Globe has been there for every minute of a relentless year—wildfires, the pandemic, anti-Black racism, the US election, and so much more. We have sought to bring you stories within the stories, those everyday, human moments of courage and resilience that inspire Canadians across our country.
We can’t know what next year will bring, but I do know that Globe journalists will be there to cover it with dedication, integrity, intelligence and insight.
I wish you happy holidays and the best for 2021.
David Walmsley Editor-in-chief The Globe and Mail
