The 64th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity takes place June 17-24, 2017 in Cannes, France. As the world’s most prestigious and coveted advertising and marketing awards, Cannes Lions celebrates creativity through spotlighting best-in-class work from over 100 countries around the world.

The registration period for the 2017 Canadian Young Lions & Young Marketers Qualifying Competitions has now ended. For all successful registrants, please watch out for an email on February 28, 2017 confirming your registration with more details for the competition taking place during the March 4-5 weekend.

The 2017 Young Lions Competition (“Young Lions”) and the 2017 Young Marketers Competition (“Young Marketers”) are sponsored by The Globe and Mail Inc. (“Competition Sponsor”). Competition Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. EST on January 10, 2017 and ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on February 24, 2017. Competition Entry Deadlines for Young Lions are: (a) 9:00 a.m. EST on March 5, 2017 for the Cyber, Print and Media Categories; and (b) 9:00 a.m. EST on March 6, 2017 for the Film Category. Competition Entry Deadline for Young Marketers is 9:00 a.m. EST on March 5, 2017. To be eligible to enter the Young Lions and the Young Marketers, entrants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada who at the time of entry are: (a) at least the legal age of majority in their province or territory of residence and not older than 30 years of age prior to June 25, 2017; (b) have a good understanding of spoken and written English; (c) hold a valid passport at least 6 months from expiry without any restrictions on travel; and (d) available to attend the 2017 Cannes International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France on June 17, 2017 – June 24, 2017 (the “Festival”) (“Competition Entry Requirements”). In addition to the Competition Entry Requirements, to be eligible to enter Young Lions entrants must be: (i) professionals employed by or working freelance for a creative communications, advertising, or digital agency (the “Creative Agency”) for the Cyber, Print and Film Categories; or (ii) employed by or working freelance for: (A) a media agency; or (B) specific in-house media department in an agency (“Media Agency”), for the Media Category; and (iii) willing to participate in the 2017 Global Young Lions Competition at the Festival (“Young Lions Requirements”). In addition to the Competition Entry Requirements, to be eligible to enter Young Marketers entrants must be: (a) professionals employed (i.e. not freelance) in the marketing department of a company that engages the services of a creative communications, advertising, or digital agency (the “Client Company”); and (ii) willing to participate in the 2017 Global Young Marketers Competition at the Festival (“Young Marketers Requirements”). If the Competition Entry Requirements and Young Lions Requirements or Young Marketers Requirements (as applicable) are met, such entrants are eligible entrants (“Eligible Entrants”). To enter the Competition, Eligible Entrants must: (1) complete and submit a Registration Form on the Competition Website; (2) pay a non-refundable CAD$75 Registration Fee; and (3) submit a Competition Entry that meets the requirements of a Competition Brief and the 2017 Official Young Lions or Young Marketers Competition Rules (as applicable) prior to the applicable Competition Entry Deadline. The Eligible Entrant who completes the Registration Form first (“Team Member 1”) will specify his/her Team Member 2 who will then participate in the Competition as a team (a “Team”). Limit of two Eligible Entrants per Team. Eligible Entrants may only be a member of one Team. Limit of one Competition Entry per Team. Each Competition Entry will be evaluated by a panel of qualified judges (the “Judges”) as selected by the Competition Sponsor. Based on the judging criteria, the Judges will select the top three Competition Entries for each Category of Young Lions and Young Marketers (“Selected Teams”). To be confirmed a “Finalist”, Selected Teams must have: (a) complied with the 2017 Official Young Lions or Young Marketers Competition Rules (as applicable); (b) signed and returned a release and indemnity and any other documents required by the Competition Sponsor; and (c) confirmed that at least one Eligible Entrant of the Selected Team is available to attend the CMDC Conference on April 25, 2017. At the CMDC Conference, the Competition Sponsor will announce one Finalist per Category in Young Lions and one Finalist in Young Marketers as the winning Team (the “Winning Team”). Each Winning Team will be eligible to receive a prize consisting of: (a) round-trip economy airfare for the two Eligible Entrants of the Winning Team from the major airport closest to each such Eligible Entrant’s residence to Nice, France, including return airport transfers; (b) at least seven nights’ accommodation in a shared double-occupancy standard room, in Cannes, France during the Festival; (c) two full-week registration passes to attend the Festival; and (d) registration and participation in the 2017 Global Young Lions or Young Marketers Competition (as applicable) to represent Canada at the Festival (the “Prize”), upon confirmation by the Competition Sponsor that each Eligible Entrant of a Winning Team has: (i) complied with the 2017 Official Young Lions or Young Marketers Competition Rules (as applicable); (ii) signed and returned a release and indemnity and any other documents required by the Competition Sponsor; and (iii) confirmed: (A) his/her acceptance of the Prize as awarded; and (ii) he/she availability to attend and participate in the 2017 Global Young Lions or Young Marketers Competition (as applicable) at the Festival. Approximate retail value of the Prize is CAD$7,500 dollars based on a Toronto departure. Odds of winning the Prize depend on: (a) the number of Teams registered in: (i) Young Lions per Category; and (ii) Young Marketers; (b) the number and quality of Competition Entries submitted in: (i) Young Lions per Category; and (ii) Young Marketers.
